About

Laura Ahumada García is a South American performer, maker, site-specific artist, and educator currently based in Germany.. She recently completed her Master’s in Contemporary Dance Education (MA CoDE) at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (HfMDK) in Frankfurt, where she was awarded a scholarship from the Hessian Theatre Academy (HTA). Her current research focuses on inclusion in higher dance education, a theme she explored in her master’s thesis. At the same time, she is actively navigating and working to bridge the transition from student life to a sustainable freelance career in Germany.

She began engaging with body work in her home country of Chile, before working professionally in São Paulo, then studying at London Contemporary Dance School (2016–2019). Immediately after completing her studies, she joined Divadlo Studio Tanca in Slovakia (2019–2021), an experience that allowed her to explore dance through multiple lenses—culturally, geographically, hierarchically, linguistically, socially, and stylistically. Over the years, she has developed her career while working with distinctive choreographers and educators such as Martin Kilvady, Milan Tomašík, Stanislav Dobák (Ultima Vez), Lívia Méndez Marín Balážová (Ultima Vez), and Stanislava Vlčeková.

Since 2019, Laura has been teaching professional-level dance classes and workshops across Europe. She has shared her practice at platforms and institutions including Ponderosa and the Unlearning Festival (Stolzenhagen), Urbanraum, Tanzfabrik, Dock 11 (Berlin), POP! Ponderosa Off-Spring Program, Flow Berlin, London Contemporary Dance School, Tanzplattform Rhein-Main (Frankfurt), Produktionszentrum (Stuttgart), and Dance Nexus Festival (Wiesbaden). She currently teaches Capoeira in the dance department at HfMDK Frankfurt.

As a freelance artist since 2021, Laura has collaborated with choreographers such as Tamar Grosz (Berlin), Finn Lakeberg (Tanz Mainz), and Regina Rosi. She is a performer in the upcoming production Karussell by Regina Rosi, presented by Hessisches Staatsballett. Additionally, she is the co-founder of Anhelo Collective, a transnational initiative bridging the UK, Germany, and Colombia in collaboration with Annie Edwards and Alejandra Gissler. The collective explores processes of caring, being, and dancing as practices for cultivating togetherness and shared desire.

Laura has also performed her solo piece Madre & Tierra at various venues and festivals, including Sommerwerft (2024, Frankfurt), Zukunft Tanzt (2024, Frankfurt), Humanography Festival (2024, Gothenburg), Ponderosa (2023, Brandenburg), and Lush (2023, Berlin).

Her work and pedagogy and  are deeply rooted in playfulness, spontaneity, absurdity, and simplicity—infused with Latin passion and shaped by feminist and decolonial perspectives. She is committed to creating spaces of togetherness through dance, where learning and unlearning happen collectively.
